I live and work in London, a designer by day and potter by night.
Whilst I love design work, my studio pottery work allows for a very personal creative expression. For me, making things with our hands is a direct portrait of ourselves, there is a directness of touching, and everything affects the outcome, the size and shape of our hands, our lightness or strength of touch, our mood, our ambition, our confidence, and how we want this to feel to the touch of others. Impatience is not a friend but it is possible to sketch as with other mediums, and to capture the immediacy of a moment or feeling.
Each piece created is a summary of its journey with the maker from its basic clay, mud like state, through the stages of the making process of drying, trimming, bisquing, glazing, and to the final vitrified stone.
